The Roads dataset provides the most uptodate and accurate road centerline information for the City of Houston and its ETJ.
It was created 10/03/2008 by combining Greater Harris County 911 roads with the Private, Access, and Proposed roads from StarMap. Using feed back from members of the Geographic Data Committee, approved plats, and permit department records. New roads are added, nonexistant roads deleted, street names and block ranges changed as a way to keep COHGIS ROADS the most accurate map of the Houston area..
This data was put together so that public and private organizations could share a common database that was accurate yet affordable.

ROAD_CLASS was populated as of 022009 from Starmap2008v4. This was accomplished by a spatial join. The result was only partially accurate but better than nothing. Starting 022109 a clean up/verification of the ROAD_CLASS is underway. This has been completed as of 052209. In 2010 October H-GAC Regional Roads Subcomittee established new functional road classification based on discussions and the participation of a number of transportation modeling experts, both from H-GAC and METRO, on the committee a hybrid approach was proposed that broadly met the needs of the transportation modelers as well as the cartographic needs of the GIS professionals. The work to convert to this new standard was started 102010, there is no estimated completion date.
